This week on the AVB Podcast we present you with Vancouver based singer-songwriter and poet, Rodney DeCroo . You may need to sit back in a comfy chair for this one. Rodney has gone through many trials and tribulations and he is here to give you a little snippet of his story… and snippet is not an understatement. Rodney, for the most part of his life, was living on the edge. Some may think it’s a good thing and to Rodney, some of it was. However, as Rodney put it, “… most of his life was not okay…” Adventures were many, but trauma and violence often accompanied these adventures. Rodney experienced most of his life alongside a father with severe PTSD and a mother who developed some serious mental health issues. Rodney tells us that he himself, unfortunately, developed severe PTSD as well. On the brighter side of things, Rodney realized the consequences early enough for his behavioural issues that he sought out help for his substance abuse and has been clean and sober for 17 years now—we need to stand and applaud this man for that!
Music and writing were very much a part of the reason he persevered through the ugliness and if you haven’t read his works or heard his music, it is a must! The AVB Podcast live event at Phog in Windsor, ON featured Rodney and had the privilege to see him perform live, this will be broadcast on theAVB.com on Facebook this week, be sure to check it out! Rodney writes directly from personal experience and you can hear the pain and emotions so vividly when he performs, it is stunning! It is a privilege to hear Rodney’s experience through his music and read through his poems This podcast is thoroughly exciting to hear so we will leave you to it!
